Carpenters
The Residential Carpenter builds all types of residential structures including tract homes, custom homes, apartments and townhouses. The Residential Carpenter is involved in many aspects of the process, from layout, foundation framing, and structural framing, to door and window installation, exterior and interior finish, roofs and stairs.

The Commercial Carpenter concentrates on commercial and public structures such as offices, malls, churches, schools, hospitals, hotels, parking structures, stadiums and bridges. This work ranges from single story to high rise, and includes foundation and reinforced concrete framing, layout, structural wood and metal framing, timber framing, finish work and fixture installation. Today's Commercial Carpenter is in the forefront of modern technology, utilizing computers and lasers as an integral part of the construction process.

The Industrial Carpenter is involved in the construction of such critical operations facilities as refineries, high-tech electronic plants and campuses, clean rooms, factories, laboratories and power stations. This highly specialized work may require security clearances, drug testing and specialized work clothing.

Acoustical Installers utilizes a high degree of accuracy to assemble suspended ceiling systems in commercial and industrial buildings while working on rolling or stationary scaffolding.

Hardwood Floor Layers will lay finished floor products that require the utmost attention to layout and detail. They also lay unfinished Hardwoods. The finishing equipment can be heavy and physically demanding. Kneeling and bending is required most of the time while installing. Finishing products will produce fumes.

Insulators install fiberglass insulation products such as rolls, rigid batts, and blown-in insulation in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. Insulators wear protective clothing, eye protection and respirators, and sometimes climb within structures to work in confined, warm areas.

Millwrights are experts in the installation and maintenance of all types and sizes of industrial equipment, machinery and instrumentation. It is a highly technical field requiring a large degree of precision. Millwrights assemble and install pumps, compressors, conveyors, and generators, as well as robotics used in scientific, automotive, food processing, power generation and bulk material handling industries.

Pile Drivers construct the heavy foundations for buildings, factories and other large structures. They are experts in marine construction, building projects such as docks, piers and bridges. Some specially trained Pile Drivers also work underwater as construction deep-sea divers.

Scaffold Erectors are specialty carpenters responsible for erecting and dismantling staging or work surfaces. Carpenters and other crafts often use scaffolding to access work areas higher than can be reached from the ground. Scaffolding work requires lifting, balance and climbing (sometimes to extreme heights).

Shinglers install wood and composition shingles on the roofs and exterior walls of houses and commercial buildings. Shinglers must carry material across high, steep and often uneven work areas.
